The One Yard Photobooth began with a simple question: what if we did not just use technology—what if we built it ourselves?
In the summer of 2024, one of our co-founders shared an idea that would shape the future of One Yard. Inspired by the belief that Africans should not only consume technology but also create it, we set out to build something that reflected our values of innovation, creativity, and expression.
At first, we imagined building our own camera. But we quickly realized that the real opportunity was not simply owning a piece of equipment—it was creating an experience around it. That idea became the One Yard Photobooth.
Designed and built entirely from the ground up, every part of the booth was thoughtfully crafted and inspired by other photobox designs. From welding the frame and designing the enclosure to programming the software, integrating the camera, printer, lighting, and server, every component was developed through months of experimentation, rebuilding, problem-solving, and refinement.
What emerged was not just a photobooth. It became a symbol of what One Yard stands for: African innovation brought to life through thoughtful design and meaningful experiences.
Today, our photobooth is at the heart of the spaces we create. More than a place to take pictures, it invites people to pause, connect, celebrate, and leave with something tangible—a memory they can hold in their hands.
